Xishan
is the top one among the thirteen Lake Taihu Scenic Zones approved
by the State Council."The autumn scenery on Dongting Hills,when seen
from the distance,looks like a field snail on a white jade plate",depicted
by an ancient writer.The natural attractions involve the pears at
Luli,the fisherman's song at Xiaosia,the evening smoke at Linwu,the
autumn moon at Shigong,the setting sun at West Lake and the red bayberries
at Jilong.Yuan Hongdao,a famous traveler of Ming Dynasty said there
were seven attractions at Xishan:hills,rocks,residences,fruits,quietness,peculiarity
and waters.
Once you are touring Xishan,you will surely
be lingering among the picturesque hills,waters and caves.The various
plants at Xishan are also very attractive no matter when it is in
summer or in winter.
Here,there are plenty of villages,streets,residences,bridges,lanes,wells,temples
and gardens built in ancient times with perfect art.The historic sites,folk
legends and ancient allusions have formed the fantastic cultural scenes
at Xishan.
Climatic
Conditions:
Xishan is situated in the north subtropical
zone with clear-cut seasons,plentiful rainfall and a long frost-free
period,very suitable for the growth of crops. The annual average
temperature stands at 15.9£,the annual average precipitation
at 1129.9mm,the sunshine time at 2176 hours and the frost-free period
at 244days.
The green ratio at Xishan is about 80% with
the forest ratio standing at 68%,of which 38% belongs to economic
forest. The quality of atmosphere and soil gas reached the first
grade of the National Standard while that of water stands at the
second class.
Specialties:
Xishan is a key production base of fruits
in Jiangsu province and the demonstration zone for the scientific
growing of summer fruits.The orchards cover 31 thousand mu with
an annual output of 30 thousand tons.It is also an important producing
area for plum,ginkgo,loquat,red bayberry and green tea.
Being a natural freshwater aquatic farm,Xishan
produces about hundred vavieties of aquatic products with an annual
output of 1000 tons,such as ice fish,white fish,white shrimps,water
shield,crab,soft-shelled turtle,eel and freshwater mussel. Xishan
is the second largest production base of stone in China.The output
of high quality limestone,3.5 million tons per year,ranks the first
throughout the country.The products include light calcium carbonate,slaked
lime,white cement and so on. The peculiar and strange Taihu stones
are also very famous across the globe.
